Would You Sleep At Night If Your Business Was On The Cloud?
What is online recruitment software? Do we automatically accept its ‘online’ and hence not mention it again? Isn’t everything online, or in a cloud or on a server? The differences are seen beyond the surface of online being the end all.Lets see a little closer. My purpose is to expose the differences.??The cloud – This is usually the term most people use to describe any web based service. Could the cloud be anything hosted online. If thats true then it has always been the cloud. Recently it has become more known in general?
The cloud to me is a massive cluster of machinery designed to offer huge power and resources. So it allows a 1 person band to set up an application that, if required could accommodate a million visitors. Prior to this the app would be hosted on a shared dedicated server. That server may have over 240 other sites in there. The issues this caused were around the fact that a few hundres visitors would cause the site to fall over. Sharing has its risks and other tenants could be the downfall of your system.
The next logical step to host your shiny new application would be a dedicated server. This is a new scenario. Looking at it as an office with tenants is one way of seeing it. You are the proud owner and no one else can do anything to locally jeopardise your business. Your new problem is you have gone from renting to owner. The server maintenance is your responsibility. Using an optional managed server service has great advantages. Its pricy but, worth it for peace of mind.
Whats the cloud now , is this it? Technically yes. I dont understand the cloud to be in this format. It will only allow for a limited amount of users, more than shared, but definitely less than a cloud. Another server is another cost and another install and configuration.
So, enter my understanding of the cloud. A cluster of boxes all working as one machine. Huge amounts of resources available on tap to switch on or off. The negatives. You are not alone, others share the resources. It is used by others who want the benefit of huge resources. It is a little risky as it has not got the same security as a dedicated server. Could this be the purpose of some firms staying away from the cloud. The advantages are there, however no compromise can be made when it comes to security.
Is there a solution? Our recruitment software is hosted on such a system . A private cloud is the name. Its a group of machines using a technology called a hypervisor and it allows you to have a clustered high availability system with all the security you need when it come to protecting your clients data. You can experience both sides. Liimited resources, high costs all contribute to the disadvantages. Today though it is the best solution on the market. Before you choose your software find out how it will be managed online. This is important as they all the look the same on the front. The difference to your business is huge. It could be the difference between 0 hours and 14 hours offline.Disasters that may never happen take up over 60% of our budget for hosting. We sleep well.
