In essence, it’s a promise – a promise that defines what your organization intends to deliver to its customers and the marketplace. But articulating a good strategy is only the beginning. It’s the strategy’s execution that determines whether an organization can turn good intentions into profits.<br/><br/>Poor Business Strategy Execution Is Destroying Business Opportunities<br/><br/>Companies invest so much time, energy and finances into identifying market opportunities and developing the perfect differentiating strategy to exploit them. Yet the vast majority of these business efforts fail. Quite often, companies and organizations blame their business failures on poor strategy. However, in most cases it’s not the strategy or plan for approaching the marketplace that should be blamed. It’s the implementation of that plan and the company’s inability to “keep its promise” that causes the enterprise to falter.<br/><br/>In fact, several studies confirm that poor execution is the number-one reason businesses fail in today’s marketplace. David Norton, author and professor at Harvard Business School, tells us that less than 10% of all business strategies are effectively implemented. This means that poor marketplace execution of the strategy is often the culprit, and not the strategy itself. This is a wake-up call for all business executives.<br/><br/>Here Are Four Primary Reasons Why Your Strategies Aren’t Living Up To Their Full Profit Potential:<br/><br/>1. The strategy fails to recognize the limitations of the existing organization.<br/><br/>Marketplace strategy makes huge demands on an organization’s capabilities and resources. While your organization can certainly transform its capabilities over time, there is a limit to how far and how fast. Recognizing what your organization can realistically deliver before crafting a new direction is essential to your business success.<br/><br/>2. Employees don’t know how the strategy applies to their daily work.<br/><br/>Most companies don’t communicate strategy broadly or effectively to their employees. If, for example, your strategy is to offer the best service, what does that really mean? What does it mean to your salesperson on the street, to your customer service representative in the call center and to your marketing manager at headquarters? If your employees don’t know how the go-to-market strategy affects their everyday work, they aren’t likely to implement it properly.<br/><br/>3. The organization’s business systems or processes can’t support the strategy.<br/><br/>It’s difficult to implement a new strategy without changing the way the organization works. Does the workflow across your various departments and divisions support your marketplace intent? Can your systems and tools meet the demands of the new strategic vision? Pursuing a new strategy with old capabilities is a recipe for disaster.<br/><br/>4. Performance metrics and rewards are not aligned with the strategy.<br/><br/>Is your organization communicating that it wants to be a service leader, but instead it rewards its customer service reps for keeping calls short? Or are you creating measurement tools that make employees feel good about their performance but don’t really measure the company’s key success factors. Metrics and rewards must tie back to the specific employee behaviors sought – behaviors that support your company’s strategic vision.<br/><br/>These issues share one common theme – your organization’s preparedness to implement the go-to-market strategy you have created. Strategy has to be more than a feel-good presentation shared with your managers, shareholders and the media. It has to be woven into the fabric of your organization.<br/><br/>Your employees need clear direction and the tools and processes necessary to support them. You need to “activate” your strategy. Strategy Activation is the new bridge that spans the chasm between strategic intent and marketplace implementation. It takes “what” an organization wants to do and defines “how” it is going to do it. It ensures that every employee drives the promises made to the marketplace across every customer touchpoint every day. <p> Every week I read at least 20 blogs that have the word &#8220;Shameless Self Promotion&#8221; in them when the writers mention themselves or products.It is really strange to see how many people out there use those words.  I get blog posts daily related to self promotion and the majority of them are start with the words &#8220;a bit of Shameless Self Promotion&#8221;. </p>
<p>You might think that the title &#8220;Shameless <a target="_blank" title="Self Promotion" href="http://www.unselfishpromotion.com/">Self Promotion</a>&#8221; appears once in a while here and there on a blog or a website. No, I&#8217;m talking 80% of the internet posts that talk about self promotion start with some variation of &#8220;Shameless Self Promotion&#8221;.When I saw this I decided to write a blog, then articles and finally a self help book.</p>
<p>Are you afraid of promoting yourself ?Are you afraid that others will not like you because you are selling or marketing or promoting? I don&#8217;t get it! What is happening?  For starters, most of these internet entries come from people that have great content on their websites and blogs, so promote it, otherwise people will never find out and benefit from that content.</p>
<p>In this article I will give you a new perspective on selling yourself.  You see, self promotion is an impulse that started with survival, with a primal instinct of self preservation.  Soon after it turned into a social skill that also required helping others to survive and strive in society in order to have more people helping each other and, yes, helping you.  This was the beginning of self promotion and it evolved into what we have today.  </p>
<p>Now, you also have to remember that if you have a good product or a good service and people will benefit from it there is no shame in promoting it.Always remember, your products, servicess, content, blog, is providing a solution.This single thing is the premise of this post.  –If you provide value you need to promote it- This value can be with a product or service and it can also be form your advice, expertise, stories or blog posts.  It is what I call &#8220;Unselfish Self Promotion&#8221;. </p>
<p>Unselfish Self Promotion means that you provide value first. You always provide some kind of &#8220;worth&#8221; to sociaty or readers or strangers.  You provide it in content, products, advice and friendship.If you are unselfish and provide value you are using self promotion, or &#8220;unselfish self promotion&#8221;.</p>

<p>I am totally convinced that being able to design and produce videos (like the one above which took one hour to make!)selling your expertise is the way forward as I have had unlimited success using video to help the customers of my low cost replacement for <a target="_blank" title="small business accounting software" href="http://www.salesorder.com/salesorder/site/content_nav/businessaccountingsoftware.shtm">small business accounting software</a> (i.e. QuickBooks or Peachtree) learn new skills such as marketing or improving their sales. Everyone should master the essential skills of turning what they know into digital content and how to market and sell it online to a worldwide audience. Creating your own digital product is absolutely the best way to stay in control and make a higher margin as you legitimately stay in touch with your customers and use their feedback to refine what you have built and potentially sell more.</p>
<p>Online video as popularised by YouTube and Podcasting is central to the method I will share with you for delivering your expertise and knowledge to your target audience. I can deliver my <a target="_blank" title="small business accounting software" href="http://www.salesorder.com/salesorder/site/content_nav/businessaccountingsoftware.shtm">small business accounting software</a> through just about every modal via the internet and guess what the traffic just follows.</p>
<p>You should always start with a plan of what you are going to say and share with your audience and therefore you need a structured approach which is best done by creating a storyboard. The easiest way to create a storyboard is to use either a slide making program like Microsoft powerpoint or Apple Keynote or use mind mapping software like Mindmeister or Bubbl but my preference is to use slides as these can be used in the video. As you will see in a moment you can create your storyboard and produce your video without having to spend any money what so ever on even the lowest cost (apart from free of course) and best tools that money (if you had it) can buy to get your video out there making money.</p>
<p>There is a great tool for producing videos that will stream from YouTube or are downloadable as a podcast or Quicktime or Windows Media Player video its called TechSmith Camtasia Studio and their site contains loads of really easy to follow tutorials that you should watch, but whatever you do don’t download the thirty day trial yet. You have thirty days free use of the Camtasia Studio software once you download the trial and what you don’t want to do is have it lying idle on your machine whilst you finish your storyboard and cut into the time you have to produce and refine your video.</p>

You can help them see around the corner ahead &#8211; because you know what&#8217;s coming. You may be the voice of reason. You may be the outsider they are looking for &#8211; no hidden agenda, no ax to grind, no previous advice to protect.<br/><br/>Or are your services no different than your competitors?<br/><br/>Really, why should people do business with you and not one of them? You&#8217;ve got to have a very good answer for that, or you are on your way out of business.<br/><br/>In an earlier piece I discussed the importance of finding and owning your niche, your target audience around which you create your unique selling proposition.<br/><br/>That description was based on the principles of psychographic marketing, a strategy of focusing on what your audience has in common, learning everything you can about that commonality, and positioning your solutions around issues that effect each of them.<br/><br/>In another article I described how &#8220;Doing It Right&#8221; can play an important learning/teaching role, making you feel more at home calling on and selling your services to business owners. I know it works, I published it based on almost three decades of real-life experience.<br/><br/>Here is another way to choose your ideal client type, based on where they are on the curve from start-up to sale or exit strategy.<br/><br/>In the previous article I suggested a &#8216;vertical&#8217; psychographic process, every prospect being in the same industry for example, an industry you already know something about or have existing credibility in.<br/><br/>Here is another way to look at your target market, one that may help you further identify where you want to work, where your specific knowledge, skill, and abilities will have the greatest impact.<br/><br/>How about working with start-ups? When businesses are just getting going, everything that each of them does they are doing for the first time. There will always be mistakes when creating business strategies, but at this stage the mistakes can cause the business to fail before it even has a chance.<br/><br/>Perhaps your specialized knowledge, that unique perspective you bring to the equation, is especially suited to helping these entrepreneurs. I know a business coach who has conclusively demonstrated to me his clients and me, that without him, they would fail failed and lost everything.<br/><br/>What have you learned or experienced to date that gives you special insights when working with people at this fragile stage?<br/><br/>Perhaps yours can be the voice of experience, the voice of reason &#8211; while their excitement runs from high to low from one minute to the next.<br/><br/>There are three principles for new business failures. How can you help?<br/><br/>One is a lack of experience, can you help them with this? Do you have a coachable point of view worth paying for?<br/><br/>Another is a lack of money, they run out of money before their revenues exceed their expenses. Again, can you help them figure out what&#8217;s important to use their limited resources on? Can you help them set priorities, make decisions strategically so they will have a fighting chance to get over the hump?<br/><br/>And finally, the business was a bad idea. You know, &#8220;It seemed like a good idea at the time.&#8221; Can you be a voice of reason? Your interactions might help them redirect their energies and resources into a more productive venture.<br/><br/>How about working with businesses that have escaped the failure of most entrepreneurs? This business is a survivor that has beaten the odds, moving from the weekly panic that the payroll will bounce &#8211; to one that is looking for more employees, more equipment, and perhaps a more professional management structure.<br/><br/>This business must build on what&#8217;s working, focusing on what&#8217;s important to their continued growth.<br/><br/>Even though they are successful. seventy-five percent of them will fail to outlive their founder. The average life span of this successful company is 23 years.<br/><br/>Why is that? Maybe they lost their focus, their identity, or their vision. Maybe things were going so well they quit doing them.<br/><br/>Is this a coachable opportunity for you? You bet. They have already demonstrated that they have a viable economic proposition. They did not already go broke like eighty or ninety percent of the other start ups.<br/><br/>If they recognize that you can be part of their turnaround, in your manner, in your attitude, and in your focus on them, they will pay your price. After all, their very life (business and personal) depends on the business and hopefully on you too.<br/><br/>Maybe you can focus of companies that have hit a &#8220;flat spot&#8221; in their developmental process. It happens to all successful companies after the making money equation has been figured out, the founders of the business are making more money that they ever thought possible, and they have not yet started thinking about what is going to happen to the company when they are ready to step down.<br/><br/>The people begin to be effected by a sort of malaise, stagnation brought on by no urgent battles to fight.<br/><br/>The business proposition is working just fine thank you very much, often in spite of them. They&#8217;re making money, living the good life &#8211; but there is a lot of dissatisfaction often under the surface. There&#8217;s no joy in the process.<br/><br/>This is where most coaching takes place in business today. Can you see yourself as part of their solution?<br/><br/>Issues such as conflict resolution, executive burnout, lack of motivation, intergenerational conflict, sibling rivalry to name a few.<br/><br/>Opportunities in team building, strategic communications, employee motivation, strategic planning, and on and on.<br/><br/>Maybe you specialize in only one of the above. A place where your specialized knowledge has a maximum value to a group of business owners.<br/><br/>There&#8217;s no limit to what you can achieve working with companies in the doldrums!<br/><br/>The Final Frontier! <p>What is a niche? Let me define the word niche first.</p>
<p>According to the dictionary, a niche is:</p>
<p><em>A situation or activity specially suited to a person’s<br /> interests, abilities, or nature: found her niche in life.</em></p>

<p>A niche is best when you have a passion for it, a true love or skill in that particular area of expertise.</p>
<p>The niche in business is therefore a specific area of expertise that you’re either interested in, good at or best suited for.</p>
<p>Now, once you assess yourself and your abilities, then you’re ready for some niche marketing.</p>
<p>The first thing to do when you find the niche you’re going to use in your business is to research it.</p>
<p>Go to <a target="_blank" href="//adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal"><strong>Google’s Keyword Search Tool</strong></a> to see of there are enough searches to justify building a business around the niche.</p>
<p>If that keyword generates at least 15,000 monthly searches, then you’ve got a good enough niche market in which to work the niche to.</p>
<p>A short, catchy domain for the niche should be next. It&#8217;s best that you get a .com domain if possible. If you can’t, then try a different domain name. The domains .net and .org also works well, but not like the .com domain.</p>
<p>Now you&#8217;re ready for your niche website. It&#8217;s your choice to start either a blog or a website.</p>
<p>A blog provides a place where readers may comment, allowing for a conversation to take place.</p>
<p>A website presents information, much like a <a target="_blank" title="MakinGiants Premium" href="http://makingiants.com/premium">blog</a>, but has no place for active comments. If an email is given, then your readers can give feedback, but it’s not live, nor is it available for other readers to see.</p>
<p>Whatever your decision, fashion your marketing efforts for the niche around that <a target="_blank" title="MakinGiants" href="http://makingiants.com/blog">blog</a> or website.</p>

<p> <a target="_blank" title="Business Branding" href="http://www.totalhealthrevolution.com/business_branding.html">Brand equity</a> is a marketing term used to refer to the marketing impact of a given product in association with a brand name. It tries to evaluate how a given product will perform in the market if it did not have the association with that brand name. Therefore, the basis for brand equity and its impact on a business is based on the knowledge of the customer about that product. And yet, brand plays a vital role in helping  build that knowledge and awareness, as well as the choices customers make based on that knowledge.</p>
<p> Brand equity, then, reinforces the significance of a brand&#8217;s value and produce that positive type of recall in the mind of consumers. Market research has shown that brand equity is one of the most important assets to the company.</p>
<p> <strong>Three Perspectives of Brand Equity</strong></p>
<p> As an intangible asset, brand equity only gets its meaning out of the perceived quality and associations made by a consumer on a given product. Brand equity can be viewed in three different perspectives:</p>
<p> • Financial: One way to understand the value of brand equity is to calculate the premium that is placed on a product. To further understand, take for example two types of products: one that is of a recognized brand, and the other is unrecognized brand. Consumers are willing to pay a bigger amount for the branded product over those which they are unfamiliar with.</p>
<p> Brand Extensions: When certain products reach a certain level of commercial success, most companies decide to extend their line by introducing newer products under their brand. Because of the existing brand awareness, these companies will no longer invest on large advertising expenditures just to make that newly-introduced product known.</p>
<p> • Consumer-based: The trust and attitude exhibited by a customer towards a given product is impacted by the associations they make with that brand. Often times, these associations are a product of their own experience with using the brand. Therefore, actual experience plays a crucial role in the marketing strategy, especially in a developing brand.</p>
<p> <strong>Benefits of a Strong Brand Equity</strong></p>
<p> Not all brand equity is positive, therefore most companies invest on building a strong brand equity. After all, it offers several benefits to the company. Below are just some of the helpful benefits that a company can derive of a good brand equity:</p>
<p> • Establishes a more reliable stream of income.</p>
<p> By improving brand equity, companies are also able to increase their profits through increased market share and premium pricing for less costs.</p>
<p> If you have established a strong brand, you can then sell that brand name at a given price.</p>
<p> <strong>Managing Brand Equity</strong></p>
<p> There are three stages involved in creating, building, and managing your company&#8217;s <a target="_blank" title="Business Branding" href="http://www.totalhealthrevolution.com/business_branding.html">brand equity</a>. They are outlined below:</p>
<p> 1.) Your first step involves the introduction of a product of a given brand into the market. You must establish a certain standard for that brand to be able to launch products in the future that will sell in the market. Your aim here is to produce a positive response from the consumer to build trust among consumers.</p>
<p> 2.) Try to produce a brand that is unique and yet memorable. The attitude of your brand must be easily accessible to consumers and must also provide benefits that will satisfy its users.</p>
<p> 3.) Consistency is the key. Your message must be synchronized with your company&#8217;s overall image and reinforce the value espoused by your organization. This is one of the most effective ways to build a strong brand equity.</p>
